I know this seems like a no-brainer but when I tell people what I do I usually hear "oh you mean like social media, right?"

No, marketing is way more than social media

Merriam-Webster marketing as, "the act or process of selling or purchasing in a market” or “the process or technique of promoting, selling, and distributing a product or service”.

There are different types of marketing activities and each company will decide which activities work best for them. We call this your marketing mix.
